The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, commonly referred to as the "Gullwing," is a legendary sports car that was produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1954 and 1963. It was introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show as a two-door coupe with distinctive gullwing doors, a feature that would become synonymous with the model's name. The 300 SL was powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six engine, and its innovative direct fuel injection technology made it one of the fastest production cars of its time. The car's lightweight tubular frame and aerodynamic design further contributed to its performance capabilities. In 1957, Mercedes-Benz introduced the 300 SL Roadster, a convertible version of the Gullwing, which continued production until 1963. The 300 SL achieved great success in motorsports, including a victory at the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans. It has since become an icon in the automotive world and is highly sought after by collectors. Its timeless design, advanced engineering, and racing pedigree have cemented the 300 SL's status as one of the most iconic and influential sports cars in history.

STUTTART works are created using a variety of techniques from original photograph and photo illustration to 3D rendering and AI image generation. The result is beautiful automotive art that is classic in style, but forward leaning in technique.

This particular piece began as an original "prompt" that was processed in an artificial intelligence image generation application. Numerous iterations were created, overlayed and then reworked and enhanced by hand using digital painting techniques. For more info on how we use AI, check out our blog post on the topic.
